Justin Krigbaum, an Inside Sales Coordinator (ISC) for LKQ’s Portland, OR (#3012) location. Justin was inspired by Megan Sell (ISC in Akron, OH) when he heard that she collects pop tabs in support of The Ronald McDonald House. So he started collecting them for 2 reasons…The first was obviously for donating to The Ronald McDonald House, as the value of the pop tab is greater than the can. The Ronald McDonald House uses the funds from the donated tabs to directly improve the health and well-being of children. Justin says, “I couldn’t resist, since it was such a small thing to do. I got other locations involved and it took off from there.” The second reason was to create a fun and competitive activity. With the help of several coworkers, over the last 3 years, roughly 15,000 tabs have been accumulated! The goal is to hit 20,000 tabs before they are taken to the donation station in North Portland. The Ronald McDonald House accepts pop tabs because they are easy to store and transport, due to their small size. For every million tabs, a certificate is sent to the person donating and they are listed on their website. They use the money to pay bills or help families that spend time at The Ronald McDonald House, while their children receive treatments for various illnesses. |
